Terms of Service

1. Acceptance of Terms

By installing, accessing, or using the MangaLens Chrome extension and any related services (collectively, the "Service"), you agree to be bound by these Terms of Service ("Terms"). If you do not agree to these Terms, you must uninstall the extension and discontinue all use of the Service.

We reserve the right to update these Terms at any time. Material changes will be communicated via the extension or by updating the "Last Updated" date above. Your continued use after changes are posted constitutes acceptance of the revised Terms.

2. Description of Service

MangaLens is an AI-powered Chrome browser extension that provides real-time translation of text within manga speech bubbles. The Service uses optical character recognition (OCR) and machine translation to detect text in manga images and overlay translated text in your chosen language.

The Service is provided "as is" and translations are generated by AI models. While we strive for accuracy, translations may contain errors or inaccuracies. MangaLens is intended as a reading aid and should not be relied upon for professional, legal, or commercial translation purposes.

3. Eligibility

You must be at least 13 years of age to use MangaLens. If you are under 18, you represent that your parent or legal guardian has reviewed and agreed to these Terms on your behalf. By using the Service, you represent and warrant that you meet these eligibility requirements.

4. User Accounts & Subscriptions

4.1 Subscription Plans

MangaLens offers the following paid subscription plans:

• Monthly Plan: US$4.99 per month, billed monthly.
• Yearly Plan: US$49.99 per year, billed annually.

Pricing is subject to change. We will notify existing subscribers of any pricing changes at least 30 days before they take effect.

4.2 Payment Processing

All payments are processed securely by our third-party payment provider, Stripe (via ExtensionPay). By subscribing, you also agree to Stripe's Terms of Service. We do not directly handle or store your payment card details.

4.3 Billing & Renewal

Subscriptions automatically renew at the end of each billing cycle (monthly or annually) unless cancelled before the renewal date. You will be charged at the beginning of each renewal period using the payment method on file.

4.4 Cancellation

You may cancel your subscription at any time through the MangaLens extension popup or by contacting us at help@mangalens.app. Upon cancellation:

• You retain access to paid features until the end of your current billing period.
• No further charges will be applied after the current period ends.
• Cancellation does not entitle you to a prorated refund for the remaining days in your billing period.

4.5 Refunds

We offer refunds on a case-by-case basis. If you believe you are entitled to a refund due to a technical issue or billing error, please contact us at help@mangalens.app within 14 days of the charge. We will review your request and respond within 7 business days.

5. Acceptable Use

You agree to use MangaLens only for its intended purpose — translating manga for personal, non-commercial reading. You agree not to:

• Use the Service to infringe upon the intellectual property rights of manga creators, publishers, or rights holders.
• Reverse-engineer, decompile, or disassemble the extension or its server-side components.
• Attempt to gain unauthorised access to our servers, APIs, or other users' accounts.
• Use automated scripts, bots, or tools to send excessive translation requests or overload the Service.
• Redistribute, resell, or sublicence access to the Service or its outputs.
• Use the Service for any unlawful, fraudulent, or harmful purpose.
• Circumvent or interfere with any security features or access controls of the Service.

6. Intellectual Property

6.1 Our Intellectual Property

The MangaLens extension, including its source code, AI models, user interface, design elements, logos, and documentation, is the intellectual property of MangaLens and is protected by applicable copyright, trademark, and other intellectual property laws. You are granted a limited, non-exclusive, non-transferable, revocable licence to use the extension for personal purposes in accordance with these Terms.

6.2 Manga Content

MangaLens does not host, store, or distribute manga content. The extension operates on third-party websites and translates content displayed therein. You are solely responsible for ensuring that your access to and use of manga content complies with applicable laws and the terms of the websites you visit. MangaLens does not endorse or encourage accessing pirated or unlicensed content.

6.3 Translation Output

AI-generated translations produced by MangaLens are provided for personal use only. You may not use translations for commercial purposes, publishing, or redistribution without appropriate authorisation from the original content rights holders.

7. Service Availability & Modifications

We strive to maintain high availability but do not guarantee uninterrupted access to the Service. We may:

• Temporarily suspend the Service for maintenance, updates, or security patches.
• Modify, update, or discontinue features of the Service at our discretion.
• Throttle or restrict access to prevent abuse or maintain service quality for all users.

We will make reasonable efforts to provide advance notice of significant changes or scheduled downtime.

8. Disclaimer of Warranties

THE SERVICE IS PROVIDED ON AN "AS IS" AND "AS AVAILABLE" BASIS WITHOUT WARRANTIES OF ANY KIND, EITHER EXPRESS OR IMPLIED, INCLUDING BUT NOT LIMITED TO IMPLIED WARRANTIES OF MERCHANTABILITY, FITNESS FOR A PARTICULAR PURPOSE, AND NON-INFRINGEMENT.

We do not warrant that:

• Translations will be accurate, complete, or error-free.
• The Service will be available at all times without interruption.
• The Service will be compatible with all websites or manga formats.
• Defects or errors will be corrected within any specific timeframe.

9. Limitation of Liability

TO THE MAXIMUM EXTENT PERMITTED BY APPLICABLE LAW, IN NO EVENT SHALL MANGALENS, ITS OWNERS, OFFICERS, EMPLOYEES, OR AFFILIATES BE LIABLE FOR ANY INDIRECT, INCIDENTAL, SPECIAL, CONSEQUENTIAL, OR PUNITIVE DAMAGES, INCLUDING BUT NOT LIMITED TO LOSS OF PROFITS, DATA, USE, OR GOODWILL, ARISING OUT OF OR IN CONNECTION WITH YOUR USE OF THE SERVICE.

OUR TOTAL AGGREGATE LIABILITY FOR ALL CLAIMS ARISING OUT OF OR RELATED TO THESE TERMS OR THE SERVICE SHALL NOT EXCEED THE AMOUNT YOU HAVE PAID TO US IN THE TWELVE (12) MONTHS PRECEDING THE CLAIM.

10. Indemnification

You agree to indemnify, defend, and hold harmless MangaLens and its owners, officers, employees, and affiliates from and against any claims, damages, losses, liabilities, costs, and expenses (including reasonable legal fees) arising out of or related to:

• Your use or misuse of the Service.
• Your violation of these Terms.
• Your violation of any third-party rights, including intellectual property rights.
• Any content you access through the Service.

11. Termination

We reserve the right to suspend or terminate your access to the Service at any time, with or without cause and with or without notice, including but not limited to cases where:

• You breach any provision of these Terms.
• We detect fraudulent, abusive, or harmful behaviour.
• We are required to do so by law or regulatory authority.

Upon termination, your licence to use the extension is immediately revoked. Sections 6, 8, 9, 10, and 12 shall survive termination.

12. Governing Law & Dispute Resolution

These Terms shall be governed by and construed in accordance with the laws of the jurisdiction in which MangaLens operates, without regard to conflict-of-law principles.

Any dispute arising from or relating to these Terms or the Service shall first be attempted to be resolved through good-faith negotiation. If negotiation fails, disputes shall be resolved through binding arbitration in accordance with the rules of a mutually agreed-upon arbitration body, unless you reside in a jurisdiction that grants you the right to bring claims in a local court.

13. Severability

If any provision of these Terms is found to be unenforceable or invalid by a court of competent jurisdiction, that provision shall be limited or eliminated to the minimum extent necessary, and the remaining provisions shall continue in full force and effect.

14. Entire Agreement

These Terms, together with our Privacy Policy, constitute the entire agreement between you and MangaLens regarding your use of the Service and supersede all prior agreements, understandings, and communications, whether written or oral.
