MangaLens ("we," "our," or "us") operates the MangaLens Chrome extension and related services (collectively, the "Service"). This Privacy Policy explains how we collect, use, disclose, and safeguard your information when you use our Service.

By installing or using MangaLens, you agree to the practices described in this Privacy Policy. If you do not agree, please uninstall the extension and discontinue use of the Service.

2. Information We Collect

2.1 Information You Provide

• Account & Payment Information: When you subscribe to a paid plan, payment is processed by our third-party payment provider (ExtensionPay / Stripe). We receive confirmation of your subscription status but do not receive or store your full credit card number, bank details, or billing address.
• Support Communications: If you contact us at help@mangalens.app, we retain the contents of your message and any information you voluntarily provide to resolve your inquiry.

2.2 Information Collected Automatically

• Manga Image Data: When you activate translation, the extension sends the visible manga page images to our secure server for AI-powered OCR (optical character recognition) and translation processing. Images are processed in real-time and are not stored on our servers after translation results are returned.
• Extension Settings: Your selected target language and extension preferences are stored locally on your device using Chrome's storage API. These settings are not transmitted to our servers.
• Basic Usage Analytics: We may collect anonymised, aggregate usage data (such as the number of translation requests) to monitor service health and improve performance. This data cannot be used to identify individual users.

2.3 Information We Do NOT Collect

• Browsing history or URLs of websites you visit
• Personal identification information (name, email, phone) unless you voluntarily provide it
• Cookies or tracking pixels for advertising purposes
• Content of non-manga web pages

3. How We Use Your Information

We use the information we collect exclusively for the following purposes:

• Providing the Service: Processing manga images through our AI translation pipeline to return translated text overlays.
• Subscription Management: Verifying your subscription status to grant access to paid features.
• Service Improvement: Analysing aggregate, anonymised usage patterns to improve translation accuracy, server performance, and user experience.
• Customer Support: Responding to your inquiries and troubleshooting issues.
• Security: Detecting and preventing abuse, fraud, or technical issues.

4. Data Processing & Storage

4.1 Image Processing

Manga images sent to our server are processed in-memory for OCR and translation. No images are written to persistent storage. Image data is discarded immediately after the translation response is delivered to your browser. Our server infrastructure is hosted on Microsoft Azure with enterprise-grade security controls.

4.2 Local Storage

The extension uses Chrome's storage API to persist your preferences (target language, UI settings) on your local device. This data never leaves your machine unless you use Chrome Sync, which is governed by Google's own privacy policy.

4.3 Payment Data

All payment processing is handled by Stripe (via ExtensionPay). Stripe is PCI DSS Level 1 certified — the highest level of certification in the payment industry. We never have access to your full card details. Please review Stripe's Privacy Policy for more information.

5. Data Sharing & Disclosure

We do not sell, trade, rent, or otherwise share your personal information with third parties for marketing purposes. We may share information only in the following limited circumstances:

• Service Providers: We use third-party infrastructure providers (Microsoft Azure for hosting, Stripe/ExtensionPay for payments) that process data on our behalf under strict contractual obligations.
• Legal Compliance: We may disclose information if required to do so by law, regulation, legal process, or governmental request.
• Safety: We may disclose information when we believe in good faith that disclosure is necessary to protect our rights, your safety, or the safety of others.

6. Browser Permissions Explained

MangaLens requests the following Chrome permissions, each for a specific and necessary purpose:

• activeTab: Allows the extension to interact with the currently active tab only when you click the extension icon. We cannot access other tabs or background pages.
• scripting: Enables the extension to inject the translation overlay UI onto the manga page you are viewing.
• storage: Saves your language preferences and settings locally on your device.
• declarativeNetRequest: Used to manage network requests related to the extension's functionality (e.g., ensuring proper CORS handling for image processing).
• Host Permissions (all_urls): Required so MangaLens can operate on any manga website. We only activate when you explicitly click the Translate button — we do not monitor, read, or access page content in the background.

7. Data Retention

• Manga Images: Not retained. Discarded immediately after translation processing.
• Subscription Data: Retained for the duration of your subscription and as required for accounting and legal obligations.
• Support Communications: Retained for up to 24 months after your last interaction, then deleted.
• Anonymised Analytics: May be retained indefinitely in aggregate form.

8. Data Security

We implement industry-standard security measures to protect your information:

• All data in transit between your browser and our servers is encrypted using TLS 1.2 or higher (HTTPS).
• Our server infrastructure is hosted on Microsoft Azure with SOC 2 and ISO 27001 certified data centres.
• Access to production systems is restricted to authorised personnel using multi-factor authentication.
• We conduct regular security reviews and promptly address identified vulnerabilities.

9. Your Rights

Depending on your jurisdiction, you may have the following rights regarding your personal data:

• Access: Request a copy of the personal data we hold about you.
• Correction: Request correction of inaccurate or incomplete data.
• Deletion: Request deletion of your personal data, subject to legal retention requirements.
• Restriction: Request that we restrict processing of your data under certain circumstances.
• Portability: Request your data in a structured, machine-readable format.
• Objection: Object to processing of your personal data for certain purposes.

10. Children's Privacy

MangaLens is not directed at children under the age of 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. If we become aware that we have collected personal data from a child under 13, we will take steps to delete that information promptly.

Our servers may be located in regions different from your country of residence. By using MangaLens, you consent to the transfer of information to countries that may have different data protection laws than your jurisdiction. We take appropriate safeguards to ensure your data is protected in accordance with this Privacy Policy.

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. When we make material changes, we will update the "Last Updated" date at the top of this page and, where appropriate, notify you via the extension or email. Your continued use of MangaLens after changes are posted constitutes your acceptance of the revised policy.
